Back in the 609
My flight got in yesterday without a hitch. After the nightmarish trip out to California, that was a godsend. So was the discovery that my apartment was pretty much intact -- all except the cable (both TV & internet), which had been disconnected, I think, when I downgraded my service in June. I called Comcast to complain, and first they scheduled a guy to come in on Saturday. I really didn't want to wait that long, though, so I called again and got a different operator who was able to move the appointment to today. The cable guy came in around noon and fixed it in 5 min. I don't think he did anything special -- he simply restored the connection -- so I got back all my channels, including the ones I'd had downgraded. I didn't say anything, so hopefully they won't notice. :P If they do, I think they'll just pull the plug on the extra channels like they did during the 1 1/2 years I got the so-called value-pack for free.
After the cable guy came, I took my car around for a test-drive to the post office & supermarket. I also stopped by the Asian Food Market, where I picked up these curious fruits that are a mix of mango, plum, and nectarine. They're bright yellow (the color of mango flesh) and have a faint mango-y aroma, but they have the taste and texture of a nectarine. Pretty good.
Top 5 things I love about my apartment:
5. Relatively few bugs
4. Strong water pressure in the shower
3. Garbage disposal in the kitchen sink
2. Air-conditioning!!!
1. Fan that rapidly expels cooking smells from the kitchen
I also decided to extend my stay here beyond the end of my lease. They're going to pro-rate the rent until the 19th, which will be my move-out date.
Now I have to go and see about getting my car washed. I have an appointment at DCH Brunswick Toyota tomorrow afternoon to get ole Maggie May appraised. The preliminary figures are in the $5 - $6K range.

Glad you made it back safely. Sounds like a good deal with the cable ... now you can catch up on all the new shows on the Food Network! What's the mango-plum-nectarine hybrid called, btw?
I also found out today from the manager at my apt that my rent will be prorated until the 19th for August. Guess we really are twins ;)

5 days and i'm home! woo hoo! i cant wait 2 b jetlagged ; )
ps, totally didnt recognize james. did he get taller? 4 some reason he looks really tall in that pic (even tho he's sitting : p)
I don't know the name of the fruit. They were labeled mango-plum-nectarine (you know how Mei-Dong is). They looked like bright yellow nectarines.
Oh yes, I'm definitely catching up on my Food Network ... and my Gilmore Girls (even though I've already watched every episode).
Yay, 5 more days! I don't think James got much taller since high school. Ha ha, if you didn't recognize James, you would totally not recognize his brothers. I saw pics from their trip to Indonesia in May, and they look like different people now! Reportedly LMH saw Mike a while ago, but I can't even imagine how she knew it was him.
Hmm I love the idea behind this website, very unique.
