By the numbers
My Memorial Day Weekend consisted of:
- Book borrowed at the library (My Antonia by Willa Cather)
- Movies rented at the video store (Saving Private Ryan and High Fidelity)
- Episodes of Gilmore Girls watched
- Number of times I ventured out in my car the entire weekend
- Boxes worth of stuff that I cleaned out of my apartment
- Pancakes consumed with Antonia at the Rotary pancake breakfast on Saturday
- Beds made in the ER while volunteering on Saturday
- Number of men sent on a suicide mission to retrieve Private Ryan in Saving Private Ryan
- CDs sold at the Princeton Record Exchange
- Number of laps swam at the pool yesterday

Wow, sounds like you had a jam-packed relaxing weekend! ;) Did you like My Antonia? I read that for my author study in 11th grade. Also, how was High Fidelity? And did the 10 laps of swimming burn off the 6 pancakes you ate at the Rotary breakfast? ;)
My weekend was comparably horrible: finishing thesis, submitting another paper, and still trying to deal with the boomerang paper (rejected yet again, argh). On a brighter note, I did get to check out this Belgian bakery near my place, Le Pain Quotidien (featured on $40 a Day in Brussels), which perked me up a bit. Hoping this week will be better!

Sorry to hear about your boomerang paper. Daddy was telling me about your weekend, and I asked him if the paper that was rejected was the boomerang paper, and he said "no" but everything he said about it sounded like the boomerang paper ::rolleyes::
Ooh, was Le Pain Quotidien good? What did you get? They have one in New Yor (I was reading about it in my Timeout guide). Apparently it's a chain, but it's authentic b/c it's straight from Europe. They have them in Paris, too.
Haven't started My Antonia yet. It looks good. High Fidelity was really good, partly because I really really like John Cusack. Jack Black was pretty funny, too. His rendition of "Let's Get It On" at the end was indescribable. Wow.
"We're all sensitive people
With so much to give
Understand me, sugar ..." :)
wow, talk about productive! hats off 2 u muffin 4 being so proactive.
ps, did u really eat SIX pankakes? i hope those puppies were small b/c thats A LOT of pan to be cakin'
pps, ms q: what did u eat at le pain quotidien? was it really yummy? i heard european bakeries r more into whole grain as opposed to her sweeter sluttier white bread sister.
LPQ was pretty good; I'd have to say their pastries/desserts are better than their entrees (at least the one I tried). I got a slice of quiche Lorraine to go, which came with an organic mesclun salad with pesto vinaigrette, a slice of cantaloupe, and bread (everything is organic). The quiche was all right -- it had a lot of leeks, ham, and some kind of cheese in it but was kind of oily. Also, I thought quiche was supposed to be made out of eggs, but I honestly couldn't taste the eggs at all -- it seemed to be bound together by some sort of cream sauce instead, which was kind of weird. The salad and fruit were great, very fresh, and the bread was nice and crusty (I think it was sourdough, though they did have a lot of yummy looking whole-grain breads, moiji).
The second time I went, I got a Belgian sugar waffle to go. This waffle was amazing. I just stuck it into the toaster, and it made the whole room smell like a bakery (which was a little embarrassing, cuz I was eating it in my office). Anyway, I topped it with some ice cream and strawberries for a nice brunch, but I think it could have easily been eaten on its own. Yum-o!
muffinjr, if we get the chance when you come for graduation, we'll definitely have to check it out -- the ambience of the place is really nice, very European and rustic. And like I said, the other desserts looked really good (and students get a 15% discount, which makes it affordable).
droooooool :9~
"Sweeter sluttier white bread sister"? Gotta hand it to you, moiji, and your inimitable style. I'll never look at white bread the same way again. ;)
It was actually six and a half (Antonia & I split the last one) but they were small, of the sort you would make in your own kitchen.
Q, I'm seeing some of the Rachael Ray starting to rub off on you. Next time I want to hear you rave about the "ham and leek action" going on in your quiche.
Hey what a great site keep up the work its excellent.
