No news is good news?

No news is just no news. I thought maybe I would hear from UCSF last week, because they send out acceptances on the 15th of the month, but there's been no word. I'll just have to wait a while longer ... and get ready to go to LA this weekend.

Had a good weekend. I made lemon-ginger scones when I woke up on Saturday morning, from a recipe in Joy of Cooking, and they turned out quite well--not like hockey pucks. Golden brown and fluffy, with a lemony scent and little bits of candied ginger sprinkled throughout. The process was a little messy--making scones is basically making biscuit dough, and if you've ever worked with Bisquick, you'll know what that's like.

I was watching Food Network when Aki called, so I brought some scones over to her place for lunch. She made omelettes with mushrooms & red peppers and served a side of crab salad w/cucumbers. After volunteering, I went back to her place because we were going to make a Target run. We stopped by Princeton, though, to meet up with 2 girls from her cell group at RCCC. They'd just finished dinner and wanted to get ice cream @ Halo Pub. Aki happened to snag a parking spot by the art gallery that's tucked into the corner of that street, and we saw they were serving free wine & cheese, so we got the other girls to come w/us to check out the art opening. There were just a couple of paintings, all done by ppl who were physically or mentally challenged, and it was pretty abstract stuff, but the food was good. And we did end up going to Halo Pub afterwards. Aki & I made the following observations:

Princeton is becoming more and more of a little Manhattan in central Jersey. Just look at the ...

$3000 loft apartments above the stores at Palmer Square

Various eateries, including:
- The Original Soup Man, the first official franchise of the place owned by the Soup Nazi in NY
- The Underground Cafe: "Euro-Chic Is Alive & Well In Princeton. Our Menu Boasts A Continental Flair With An Eclectic Mix Of French And Italian In A Soho Casual Atmosphere."

Shopping--tons of little boutiques, as well as the better-known stores in Palmer Square (J. Crew, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, 9 West)

Christmas tree in Palmer Square (a Rockefeller Center wannabe).

They even have horse-drawn carriage rides during the holidays! :: shakes head ::

We finally did make it to Target, where Aki nabbed a blazer and tank top for under $10 total. She's always finding good deals because she falls right in the middle of the bell-curve when it comes to sizes. What I would give for a "generic body-type."

Sunday morning I went to Crossroads at Hillsborough High School, and I went to TAFPC afterwards for their Lunar New Year celebration (basically a potluck). I've been back one other time in the past 2 months, and it's always nice to see my parents' friends because they're all so welcoming and happy to see me. I think they want me to come back more often, but I'll have to see about that. Also got to talk to Tina and Melody, the only other post-grads my age who were around that day. They're both 3 years younger than me, and the age gap used to be such a big deal when we were growing up, but not anymore so that was cool. And the youth group is completely different now. It's composed of all the "little kids" who were running around when I was growing up. The youth are mostly boys, so the youth leader has actually gone out of his way to tailor the sermons to that demographic. He's going through the book of Mark, casting Jesus as an action-hero and Mark as the comic book illustrator.

When I got back home later in the afteroon, I helped SiouxieQ rehearse one final time for her Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship interview on Tuesday. Wish her luck tomorrow!
