Wow
My UMDNJ-RWJ interview went pretty well today, I hope. My interviewer was a sweet old professor of microbiology. I was kind of nervous throughout, but it wasn't as bad as I'd expected. He did present me w/quite a few ethical scenarios that I might face as a doctor, but a quick review of a bioethics website my sister had sent me this morning really helped me answer those questions.
The big news is that my friend from high school--Kathy Scott--had a stroke. Another old friend called to tell me last night. The stroke happened about 2 weeks ago. You can read more about it on her website, http://prettypixel.net/blog. Fortunately she didn't suffer major damage, as in she can still walk, talk, and update her blog. But the news was quite shocking--and sad. I'm glad she seems to be taking it in stride and maintaining a positive attitude. Though I didn't meet her husband when I saw her last fall, I know she chose well when she married him & I'm confident he'll be there for her as she begins her recovery. They just bought a house in Colorado, and she'd only been working for the National Geological Survey for a few weeks when it happened. At least she had a job w/benefits. I don't really know what else to say right now, except that my sister & I will be sending her something in the next few days. Feel free to chip in ideas.
