That's Outrageous!

I went into a panic yesterday, b/c right before I left for work, I saw the letter from UCLA w/info about their application. It came last week, but I only saw the words "No AP credit will be accepted in place of the required introductory classes" this time around. The problem is, I passed out of intro bio & chem when I went to college. Did this mean I would have to go back and take them if I was thinking of going to UCLA? I figured I would go online and look it up when I got to work, but 15 minutes after getting there (I went in for a half day), the network went down and didn't come back the whole afternoon. I couldn't do the one thing I had come into work for, which is work on my mid-year performance plan, b/c all my files were saved on network drives. Talk about technology dependence.

Okay, so 6 hours after finding out about the whole UCLA thing, I finally get back home and proceed to check the requirements for all 10 schools i'm applying to. Fortunately, I'm fine for all of them except UCLA. I'm pretty sure I can substitute upper-level bio & chem for the intro classes, but I'm still short one semester of math. At this point, I'm like "Geez, I don't want to go to the trouble of taking a math class just so I can go to UCLA. That would be such a hassle. Maybe I'll apply to UCSD instead." They have the same requirements, but maybe they'll accept AP credit. I get on the phone w/UCSD and start wrangling w/the woman who answers b/c she doesn't seem to be understanding my question and makes it sound like I'll have to re-take general chem even though I was a chem major, for crying out loud. Fortunately we resolve the confusion and it turns out I'm good after all.

I asked my sister about the whole dilemma & she was like, don't let the one semester of math hold you back from applying if you really want to go. Besides, UCLA may be the only UC that considers out-of-staters on par w/state residents, so I think I'm still going to apply, and if necessary take a stat class at Middlesex County College in the spring or summer.

I made Aki's Thai green curry last night. Only I used red curry instead of green curry. And I didn't have lime on hand. My basil went bad, so I didn't use that either. Oh, and I didn't have any shrimp. I guess I can't say I made "Aki's Thai green curry" after all.

thats retarded. tons of ppl applying 2 med school have ap credit under their belts. why r they doing this? 2 rule the elite students that u would actually WANT in ur school? it just doesnt make n e sense. what did siouxie say about this? did she have the same problem when she was applying 4 her phd?

as 4 the thai curry, that was quite yum. the thai food here is mediocre, but there r tons of yummy indian restaurants here. 2 so far that i love. 15 bucks 4 the "set" i know that sounds like a ton of money, but in japan, its not. i whip out 100 bills all the time feeling guilty, but the cashiers dont even blink. they even have the 85 bucks in change i need w/not a worry. n e thing under 10 bucks is a coin here, and ppl spend 10 dollar bills like theyre 1's. sigh. starting sept. i'm gonna start budjeting better.
