Livin' it up in NY
It was such a perfect day to go to NYC w/Geiosee Froggie and LMZ. Dry 80's w/a slight breeze--you couldn't have asked for more. Besides the holiday, the Live 8 concerts were going on today w/one in Philly, so NYC felt a little more empty than usual. I heard there were 750,000 ppl at the concert. Isn't that crazy?
Anyway, we walked around the NYU area & checked out American Apparel, which has been creating some buzz lately as much for its controversial owner Dov Charney as its high-quality, reasonably-priced t-shirts & cotton wear made in a sweatshop-free environment. Charney is something of a flower child who encourages consensual sexual relationships among his employees, several of whom he's involved w/himself. And he posts almost-pornographic pictures of his employees modeling the merchandise in stores, alongside actual spreads from Penthouse magazine. We didn't buy anything, but we did watch a video of an employee wrapping a scarf around her upper body to create various tops. We also stopped @ United Colors of Benetton and Bigelow Pharmacy. We had lunch @ Menkui-Tei, a ramenya in Japantown.
Oh, and Geiosee Froggie got me the cutest T-shirt for my birthday. I love it! Thanks, Geiosee Froggie! I've gotten such nice presents for my 25th birthday. My sister gave me a free ticket anywhere in the US with her frequent flier miles from American Airlines. And Strawberry Janana gave me that soothing massage @ Jouvence when I was down there in May. Thanks, everyone!
