It is finished! (for now)
I had the best workout in weeks this morning.
Yesterday I submitted my AMCAS primary med school application online. I wanted to mail a copy to the pre-med committee @ my alma mater ASAP so I could kick back for 2 weeks while I wait for secondaries. Getting to the post office was going to be a problem, though, since I leave for work before my local P.O. opens. I take the vanpool, so I can't get to a P.O. near work unless I walk. Mapquest said there was one a mile and a half from my office. It's 9:05 and I'm like, no problem--I can get there and back in 45 min and make my 10 am meeting no sweat. Apparently I walk a lot slower than I thought or maybe it's just my short legs. Anyway, it's 9:30 and I don't even think I'm halfway there. I've already climbed 2 ginormous hills (has anyone noticed how mountainous north Jersey is?) and passed a huge cemetery that I'm thinking of cutting through on the way back. I'm coming up on the Century Buffet and a ghetto-looking Convenience Plus store and thinking God I hope it's close.
I get there at 9:40. Luckily I'm the only customer. I buy my 23c stamps and 90c stamps, slap them onto the acknowledgment postcards & envelopes for the UC schools, stuff everything into the big envelope and request Priority Mail. The clerk asks if I want to certify it. What about return receipt, I ask. I have to fill out 2 more forms for that? Fine, certified it is. Oh, I need to seal this. She hands me a sponge. I swab the flap generously, whip out my credit card and seal the deal. It's 9:45. I manage to powerwalk back to work in 20 min and make my meeting. And with that, it is done, at least until I get my secondaries. A big thank you to everyone who read my personal statement for me.
Highlights of the last week:
1. Got my scores back. 40, baby! This was much better than I expected, considering how I felt like sobbing after the physical science and verbal sections.
2. New driver's license. I went to DMV (or MVC as it's now called) at 7:50 am on Saturday. I was #6 on line and got out by 8:30. The new license looks too slick to be mine. I'm used to the old school ID that makes everyone look like a criminal.
